Editing Drums

It's been quite some time since my last post, as the Darkling project went dark for several months while I focused my attention on the Oakes and Smith project (more on that here). And while work on O&S continues—we are actually just now getting ready to record an album with a group of musicians we've been playing with for the past few months—I have some time again to devote to Darkling. So, about a week ago, I pulled out the drum tracks we recorded last summer at the Isokon and began editing them using Logic, a newly learned program for me, which has some very nice drum editing capabilities. The idea here is to get these acoustic drums mapped out perfectly to a grid, so that all the electronic beats, loops and synths will integrate seamlessly with them. Right now, I'm about halfway through this part of the process, and once it's done, I can move on to building loops, sequences, bass, guitars, etc. on top of this backbone. I like the way things are sounding, now, and I'm excited to be back at it, moving Darkling forward again.

More soon...
